Read what Emma and Robert think about living in the city and in the country. Who is right?
Emma: We live in the quiet countryside among the lakes with crystal water, great trees and green fields. For my family there is no better place to live than in the country. You can’t enjoy a lovely sunset in the city the way you can in the country. Looking at the open green fields and trees out in the country is much more pleasant than looking at the walls of buildings in the city. Country life is good for having all kinds of domestic and farm animals.
In the country most families are close and support each other. I believe that country people are more peaceful, hard−working and helpful. They may be farmers or they may be writers or artists. But all of them have a deep love for nature.
If you prefer to have time to smell the roses around the door of your house, and have true friends, then life in the country is for you.


Robert: People sometimes ask themselves where it is better to live: in the city or in the country. I think the answer depends on what you like. Now many people say that they love living in the country, but I choose the city. First, in the city you can see a lot and get to know many interesting people, which is rather difficult in the country. There you know everybody and there aren’t any surprises any more. Then, the city is much richer in cinemas, theatres, museums, shops and restaurants. You can often go to stadiums where national sports teams have a game. Almost every day local and international musicians play in parks and concert halls. Museums and galleries show works of art from different countries. There are also clubs for nearly every interest and hobby: books, chess, dancing, singing, painting, travelling and more.
I prefer the countryside for holidays. For my everyday life I will always choose to live in or near a city.

Эмма: Мы живем в тихой сельской местности среди озер с кристально чистой водой, большими деревьями и зелеными полями. Для моей семьи нет лучшего места для жизни, чем за городом. Вы не можете любоваться красивым закатом в городе, как за городом. Смотреть на открытые зеленые поля и деревья за городом, гораздо приятнее, чем смотреть на стены зданий в городе. Сельская жизнь хороша тем, что здесь есть все виды домашних и сельскохозяйственных животных.
В деревне большинство семей близки и поддерживают друг друга. Я считаю, что сельские люди более миролюбивые, трудолюбивые и отзывчивые. Они могут быть фермерами, писателями или художниками. Но все они очень любят природу.
Если вы предпочитаете иметь время понюхать розы у дверей своего дома и завести настоящих друзей, то жизнь за городом для вас.
